A Wonderful Week Away!!

After taking away many day trips, I was finally thrown in at the deep end and sent away on my first County Staff Club Holiday, the much talked about, much anticipated 4 nights in Sidmouth. What a fabulous time I had!

The County Staff Club has been travelling down to Sidmouth for many years and truth be told people were booking for next year before the trip had ended.

So what makes Sidmouth such a special trip – where shall I start? The food, the old world charm that the hotel excels at and the picturesque Devon surroundings to name a few.

The Royal York & Faulkner; the chosen hotel for our 4 night stay is steeped in History especially with the Royals. It is still to this day family run with exceptional service. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the bed was much comfier than my own. If I could have taken it home on the coach I would’ve.

When I asked the customers with me why they kept coming back the answer that almost always came up was the food. I would agree and so would my scales. With a three course meal each night, I enjoyed Lemon Sole, Veal, Crab Biscuit and the most delicious Cheese & Pickle Sandwich I have ever tasted.

Hotel aside, Sidmouth is a perfect base for discovering the delights Devon has to offer. We had a full day in Exeter to explore at our leisure; my choice was to take a tour of the Cathedral. I hired the very reasonably priced headset with John Nettles telling me all about the history of the Cathedral both past and present.

Our final day was spent with a brief trip to Taunton before visiting Hestercombe House for Afternoon Tea – more delicious food in spectacular surroundings and it has to be said fabulous company too.

So all in all my first trip away was amazing, I couldn’t have asked for a better group, hotel, food or location. A special mention must go to Happy Days Coaches, who were first class as always and especially Kevin our driver who helped every step of the way.

So to sum it up in one last sentence – Roll on February 2017!
